"Risk Management for Engineers & Surveyors"

8 Professional Development Hours

Duration  8 hrs (8 PDH)

Year  2007

The liability risk of the design professional brings together the disciplines of art, science, and law. Each of these disciplines is continually changing and is forcing the design professional to meet new challenges. The role of the engineer has changed from the time when the engineer was usually the only professional on the construction job to the present time when the engineer retains professional consultants to perform the specialty designs of the project. The law has changed from the time when the engineer was insulated from risk of potential liability through the doctrine of privity of contract to the present time when the design professional’s risk of potential exposure to liability has increased because of the adoptions of contribution among joint tortfeasors. The changing role of the design professional will create further changes in the law relating to professional liability. Covers claims against design professionals, standard of care, breach of contract, express and implied warranty, negligence, liability, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, deceptive trade practices, claims against the contractor, economic loss rule, errors and omissions, statute of limitations, statute of repose, liquidated damages. With workbook.
